Family support fun days July/August 2013

Five Rivers Ireland ran two family support days over the summer - one in Connemara and one in Wicklow.  The families and young people had  enjoyable  days where they relaxed and took part in a walk and various activities with each other. The team at Five Rivers Ireland were able to support and introduce the families to each other to enjoy mutual support and give all involved a break from the hussle and bustle of everyday life. 

Education Workshops

Five Rivers will be running  workshops with Marie Delaney, Educational Psychotherapist, in Dublin, Cork and Carlow in September and November.  

This workshop will look at the effects of loss, trauma, neglect and disrupted early attachments on learning behaviour and emotional development. The workshop will also look at practical and fun ways in which we can support children in their educational development and participation in school. Marie Delaney is highly accomplished and an expert in her field. 

September training courses

The Five Rivers Training Unit will be presenting workshops in 'Marte Meo' and 'Looking After Ourselves as Carers' in Dublin, Carlow and Cork in the month of September.   

Next 'Foundations For Fostering' training course

Five Rivers Fostering will be holding their next Foundations For Fostering course in Limerick for prospective careres from 23 - 25th August 2013.

Foster carers urgently required in Waterford/Cork/Limerick

Are you interested in caring for young people between 12 - 18 years of age?  We are currently looking for carers, particularly in the Waterford/Cork/Limerick areas.  Please get in contact with us at the Cork office if you wish to enquire.

Five Rivers training courses

Five Rivers Ireland training department will be running courses in July for our carers on "protecting children and protecting ourselves", "the effect of trauma on the child and carer", and "sexual health & relationships".

Training will take place in Dublin, Cork, Athlone and Carlow.

Dublin Mum of the Year 2013 award for Foster Carer

Foster carer Kathleen O’Farrell, Baldoyle was recently crowned ‘Woman’s Way & Lidl Dublin Mum of the Year’. She was nominated by her daughter Kathleen junior. Kathleen and her husband have been fostering and working with the Tulsa Child and Family Agency
social work department in North Dublin for over 25 years.

Education of Children in Care in Ireland: An Exploratory Study, commissioned by the Ombudsman for Children’s Office, presents the results of a recent study on education for children in care in Ireland. The overarching aim of this study is to identify how the Irish education system can best support attendance, participation and attainment in education by children in care.
